Surf, Travel, and Family

I’m Tom Powley, and I founded E Street Surf School in Rye, New Hampshire alongside my son, Reid. Beyond my New England roots, I am a passionate world traveler, fluent(yet rusty) in French, with a lifelong love for exploring other cultures and communities.

At my core, I am a family man. I'm happily married and live in New Hampshire with my wife and our black lab, Violet. We are officially empty nesters. All three of our children have gone off to school and one has launched his career, and I could not be prouder of the people they’ve become.

In the summers, I run the surf school and stay deeply active in our local community. Giving back is a core part of what we do: we partner with charitable organizations like The Key Collective to give underprivileged youth access to surfing, and we host free surf nights for our local veterans, first responders, and teachers. As a lifelong educator, coach, and referee, guiding and supporting others, whether in the classroom, on the field, or in the ocean, has always been at the heart of everything I do.

Of all the places my travels have taken me, I deeply treasure Nosara, Costa Rica, where I’ve spent years building authentic, lasting relationships with local families and businesses. Through E Street Retreats, I expand that same grounded energy far beyond our home breaks. My deep personal connection to Nosara allows me to curate immersive, heart-centered experiences that go well beyond a typical vacation. My goal for every retreat is simple: to create an unpretentious, welcoming space where you can unplug, reconnect, and move at your own pace.
